Padova City
Experience the fascinating city of Padua, a true pearl of Italy that is both modern and rich in history. Visit the renowned University of Padua, where Galileo Galilei once taught and which is home to one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Discover the impressive Prato della Valle, a huge square with a canal lined with 78 statues and a lively market on Saturdays. There is another market near the imposing Palazzo della Ragione with its multi-storey arches and impressive wooden ceilings. Stroll through the cobbled streets and colonnades to the magnificent Gran Loggia and the imposing bell tower.
The numerous churches in Padua impress with their splendid furnishings, especially the Basilica of St Anthony with its chapels, domes and towers, where the saint's remains are kept. In front of the basilica is the impressive equestrian monument by Donatello. The simple façade of Padua Cathedral contrasts with the beautiful frescoes by Giotto in the Baptei and the breathtaking Capella degli Scrovegni, a jewel of the city. The frescoes, created in the 14th century, have been lovingly restored and still shine in vivid colours today.
The nearest airport is Venice Marco Polo. However, before you set off from your hotel, flat or bed & breakfast in Padua, you should definitely take a relaxing stroll through the narrow streets around the Palazzo del Bò or the Jewish quarter to soak up the city's unique atmosphere.
